It was my 30th birthday and, for it, my friends had planned an elaborate night on the town complete with the best limo service st. louis. I would have been fine with just a nice dinner and a trip to one of the city’s jazz lounges. However, they wanted to make my night “epic” and, for better or worse, they achieved their goal. It started out with a little pre-gaming. In our case, that did not involve watching a football or basketball game before we left the house. Our pre-game involved a champagne toast to an amazing night. I should have known from the way the toast went that we were in for a rough night. My friend Janet actually spilled her drink on another friend because she was trying to avoid stepping on my dog. In the grand scheme of how things went that night, however, that was perhaps the smallest of mishaps.
Once the limo came to get us, we were super excited to head to dinner. Dinner actually went off without a hitch. We went to a “basic” place, The Melting Pot, but hey…I had never had it and it was my birthday so that is what I wanted. As a side note, I am not sure how anyone could eat there regularly. Do not get me wrong. The food and service were amazing. I enjoyed the cheese fondue selection and especially loved the chocolate fondue fountain. The bill though? I did not love that. Fortunately, I did not have to pay for it, but since I do not spend a lot of money on myself I felt a bit bad for asking someone else to spend it on me. Of course, my friends were happy to and, again, that part of the night was great and fun.
This is the part of the night that went awry. First, it was pretty warm in the limo because the driver did not keep the vehicle running while we were at dinner..no Air Condition! Okay, cool (or not, but I digress…) It cooled down pretty quickly once we got settled. Then, on the way to the lounge we hit a pothole. No disrespect to the driver from http://www.limostlouis.org/ because he was excellent and did a good job maneuvering through the potholes that cover the great streets of St. Louis. I have had a blowout after hitting a pothole so I could totally sympathize. What happened next was epic alright. We were broken down and he was calling to arrange a new limo to get us and, I assume, tow truck to get the other limo. Another side note…I have never seen a limo being towed and I was somewhat looking forward to seeing how that would go. I never got the chance to though because the tour bus-like thing pulled up next to us.
We were a bit confused and wondered if it was just a good samaritan stopping to help us. But, no. that was our ride. I started to get a bit annoyed because it was a huge bus and I was not sure how we would be able to get to the lounge since it was located on a narrow street. Nevertheless, we all climbed in and in that moment we realized that it was a tour bus. In fact, there were several people on it already. None of them looked familiar until this one guy came from the back. And it was…none other than…Justin Beiber. Oh, how I would have been super excited if I were turning 20 instead of 30. Ha! But, I had a few friends who love his music who were extremely excited to see him.
I guess the limo company had a limo on route to get us but Beiber thought it would be great to pick us up. The whole thing ended up being filmed and we had to sign releases and the whole nine. I can’t say that I was upset about the evening. It definitely was a wild ride. By the time we got through the entire release signing and my friends asked him enough questions and took enough pictures to feel satisfied, we headed to the lounge to be dropped off. And guess what? It was closed! So, I did not get to do everything I wanted for my birthday, but I did meet Justin Beiber and I guess that counts for something.
